Dear Colleagues,

The idea of bringing together basic scientists and clinicians in the field of ORL in an academic environment was initiated 30 years ago.  The first two International Academic Conference took place in Utrecht, the Netherlands in 1984 and in 1986, which I organized together with E. Huizing.  Topics that were covered primarily focused on immunobiology, autoimmunity, transplantation, and the newly developed techniques in rhinology and tumor immunology.  Subsequent meetings were held in San Diego, USA (1990) under Brian McCabe and Jeff Harris; in Oita, Japan (1994) under the late Goro Mogi; in Sienna, Italy (1998) under Desiderio Passali; in Jeju Island, South Korea (2002) under Hee Nam Kim and In Yong Park; in Melbourne, Australia (2006) under Stephen O’Leary; in Malaga, Spain (2012) under Rafael Urquiza; and most recently in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (2015) under Lokman Saim.  Through the years, the program has expanded to include topics in recent advances in ORL research.

As founder of this International Academic Conference in Otology, Rhinology and Laryngology, it gives me great pleasure to see its continued growth in attendance and importance.  There is a lot more that we can do.  In March 2018, we shall all gather in Manila, Philippines.  I am sure we will all have a wonderful time - exchanging ideas among colleagues, meeting old friends and making new ones, and discovering the beauty of our host country.

Honorary President, ORLIAC
On behalf of the Philippine Organizing Committee, we are honored to play host to the ORL International Academic Conference in 2018.  A global continuing medical education initiative that features the most respected leaders in the field of otorhinolaryngology, we hope to provide an interactive venue to reconnect with each other, to update ourselves and learn from each other on issues of common and critical concern, and to be informed by voices from a global perspective.  And as always, informal interaction in the corridors, at meals, or outside the conference itself always adds immeasurably to the enjoyment and benefit from coming together.
We sincerely hope that you will find the time to come to Manila, the Philippines in March 2018.  We are leaving no stone unturned in ensuring a most rewarding and memorable experience.  Explore our 7,107 islands and experience the genuine warmth and gracious hospitality that comes naturally from every Filipino.
